| What is an IDA? |
Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) are special matched savings accounts that enable low-income families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream. IDAs reward the monthly savings of working low-income families who are building towards purchasing a productive asset - homeownership, education, or entrepreneurship.
While the match savings is the centerpiece of an IDA, the program has several other components including financial education training, individual financial counseling and asset-specific training. Participants are required to attend 8 hours of financial education training which focuses on spending behaviors, goal setting, debt management, budgeting, saving, consumer awareness, investing, and asset-protection. Asset-specific training is also required for homebuyer education and business plan development.
UIDAN is a statewide program managed by AAA Fair Credit Foundation.
