Hello Utah Saver,

Hope you were able to enjoy a Utah Saves Week activity last month!  Whether it was a piggy bank contest or a class, getting into the spirit of financial success is vital for a persons well-being. If you were unable to attend, here is what you missed!

In Juab County a piggy bank contest and movie night was planned. The movie, Richie Rich, was a great reminder to save. Along with the movie, there was goal sharing over dinner and a computer lab to present great financial websites.

Duchesne 4-H Teen Council hosted a piggy bank decorating event also. By using basic ceramic pots, the youth were able to create any type of coin holder they could imagine. Some made chicken banks, clown banks, bunny banks, and art deco banks. Just goes to show, you can save money anywhere you choose to!

If you were driving in Salt Lake this week you might have seen signs hanging up promoting different businesses celebrating Utah Saves Week. These businesses held classes during the week in order to promote a healthy financial lifestyle.

Al Bingham spoke in different areas of the state about creating a better credit score. At one of his workshops in Provo, many community members gathered to hear about the importance of a great credit report and how to improve there own credit score.

Cedar City schools partnered with the State Bank of Southern Utah to hold a Utah Saves Art Contest. To the left is one of the overall winners. The caption on the page says, "A penny saved means my money works for me!"

Here at the Utah Saves Headquarters, the lucky winners of the Saver's Challenge were chosen at random. The winners will be receiving a $25 U.S. Savings Bond. For more information on U.S. Savings Bonds click here.

Congratulations to this year's winners:
  • Dean Kilfoyle - West Valley City
  • Janae Kay - Mona
  • Arienne Zubiller - Ogden
  • Rebekah Mower - Ogden
  • Tiffani Hengen - Provo
  • Christine Orozco - Ogden

Home Owning in this Market

Home owning is tough out there today. The best tool to combat this market is information.  Bloomberg.com has a great article on learning about the mirage of lower mortgage rates, but having higher fees and stricter eligibility.
