Piggy Bank
Utah Saver of the Month:
Bruce Tincher

When Bruce Tincher signed up for the Utah Saves program he received the infamous piggy bank and decided to start filling the bank with only quarters.  Once the piggy bank was full, the plan was to set aside that money for his two year old grandson.  The first time Bruce filled the bank the quarters totaled up to $180!

Bruce is planning on saving this way until his grandsons sixteenth birthday. Then he will turn the money over to his grandson. If Bruce fills the bank up three times a year for the fourteen years, the time until his grandson turns sixteen, he would have saved over $7,000! That's a car for his grandsons birthday. Wahoo Bruce!

If you are a Utah Saver and would like to be highlighted in the coming months send your story to stephanie.young@usu.edu

If you are a Utah Saver and have not received a piggy bank, talk to your local extension agent on picking one up.   Click here to find the office closest to you.

Yes, any one can make the argument that drinking water instead of soda, coffee, juice, alcohol, tea, and so on is healthier. However, to help water go down that much easier think how much money your saving by turning on the faucet!

 Rethinking Retirement in Tough Times
By Steve Santiago *Bankrate.com
Former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman once said, "The question isn't at what age I will retire, it's at what income."
